Star snare drum in need of restoration

Loading...

I have just bought this star snare drum from ebay for £11.00 to go with one of my star kits. It is COS 10 lugs original snare head and maybe wires. Once it is finished it will be out being played with the 8 lugger on another thread. As you can see from pics there is some work to be done. Ill keep you all posted with the renovation. One thing i would like to know is approx year of manufacture....Thanks....sean.

That lug and badge came out in 1967, but it could have been made after that. No Star catalogs after 67 (that are verifiable). The one=touch muffler may also help in dating. I am not sure what year that came out. Most MIJ snares have the wider throw-off, so that it very cool. I like the adjustable butt too.

Remember NO STEEL WOOL.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

The strainer is a version, which can seldom be seen.

Although lugs and strainer came up in the 60's, there's one hint that dates this snare drum to the 70's: the one touch tone control (= damper). This one came up first around 1972. Of course it could have been added later to an earlier manufactured snare drum without a damper, but I don't think so.

Ive just finished polishing tension rods washers strainer and butt. These parts look like new. The strainer works very well and i like the adjustment on the butt. Quite a professional looking drum. Thanks for info..........sean
