Hey. guys,
In my previous thread, "The Elusive Star Conga is Mine!!!", I noted that I was extremely pleased at the condition of this drum. I still am but, today I started to break it down for a cleaning and polishing. I noticed something very strange on the badge. I had to get my magnifying glass to make sure I was seeing correctly. Yep, my eyes didn't deceive me. On the badge, in the top right hand corner, above the "Star Quality Instruments" the words, "since 1908" were printed! I was always under the assumption that Hoshino Gakki began the company in 1965. I still believe this. Could it be that Star was being a bit "creative" by trying to convince buyers of the age and prestige of the company? I'm not even sure from what I've researched, that early Tama serial numbers mean anything. If anyone can shed some light on this matter, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Brian
