STAR King Beat snare drum

Hi everybody,

shortly I was lucky to catch an old STAR snare drum.

Size 14" x 5", cob, with parallel strainer, complete and in good to excellent condition. I know this heavy metal shell snare from the old STAR-catalog I call my own. But the badge on this snare shows the "Royal Star" logo in black. I know the "Royal Star" round badge in silver (produced ca. 1970 - 72), but this one appears to be still older? Is this snare = badge from the beginning of the short Star aera: 1965?

Thanks for looking.

Greetings

Ralf

Hi Ralf ,"

As you know Star Started using the "Star Royalstar "name on their kits before they introduced the Tama Royalstar name , I say your kit is around 1970 , the strainer is for sure from the 70's .The silver round badges were used from 70 to 74 .They probably started that black badge then not long after changed to the silver .

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your reply!

For me, STAR is very interesting as they produced only for a short period and, indeed, they are the roots of TAMA. (I'll definitely will come back soon and introduce my first Star drumset, which I sold and it will be mine again, in short ...)Yes Sir

Hi there,

I'm trying to source 2 plastic bolts for my Kingbeat and get an idea of year of manufacture. Does anyone know where I can get these?

See photos, and thanks for your time! (just want to try this awesome snare out!)

P.s. looks great since its been polished and painstakingly restored!

Hi,

Yours is, my guess, one of the first TAMA 'King Beat' snares, after their switch in the name from Star to TAMA. Still the strainer contains the former STAR logo.

It will be very difficult to catch the plastic screw anywhere ...

My suggest: take the winding part of it (it should be long enough), put from outside a matching screw nut onto it (instead of the broken plastic head) and it should work again! Perhaps the screw nut must be shortened a little bit in the height.

As I can see from the pics one of the four screw nuts (that with a 'hat') is missing at the strainer: if you are looking for this part as well: I may send it to you (give me a PM with your address).

Hello again,

As promised, here are the pics of my Royal Star Drumset. The first pic shows it in original shape, the second one shows the new Starclassic tomholder system for the rack toms (I have modified a Roadpro tom stand for this construction as well).

By using this, the rack toms have an AWESOME sustain now!

Enjoy.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a spare damper control knob they would be willing to sell? mine had just flunked!

The star kingbeats are brilliant snares, but the plastic components suck as they are weak!

Really nice kit Ralf!!

Hello everybody,

I like to introduce my two KingBeat snare drums, which I have together for my two Royal Star drumkits now.

One is a 'Royal Star' KingBeat in exceptional collector's condition (only very few pitting on the hoops), the other has an 'Imperial Star' badge, but nevertheless absolute identical features, with a few pitting points in shell and hoops.

10 lugs per side, very heavy shell with a seam, produced between 1972 and 1973. Tama's follower had the same features until approx. 1976, when it was upgraded with a seamless steel shell.

Both complete with 'one touch tone control' damper and even genuine hut nuts on the parallel strainer.
