Star Imperial King Beat parade drum

Loading...

Hi fellas, I don't post much but here's a snare I found. It's a Star Imperial King Beat parade drum that I bought for €50. The condition wasn't all that great but not horrible either. Just some rust here and there and some pitting on the lugs and other hardware.

Everything works as it should so I'm glad, and none of the parts are missing except for the tuner, but I don't mind that.

Two of the lugs were changed to and older style lug. That's my only "issue" with the drum. I would like to replace them with the original Sharktooth lugs. Does anyone have 2 laying around for sale or trade? Some of the other top lugs are cracking on the inside where the screw connects with the lug, I assume of the high tension the snare was in and considering its age. I tuned the snare a bit lower then when I found it.

Also the wrap isn't in great condition but I kinda like aged color it got.

The wrap is warped at the lugs and the overlap. I'm not going to change the wrap anytime soon but any ideas are welcome.

I would love to hear if anyone can help me out. Thanks guys

Great and rare find!

Those Sharktooth lugs are an issue ...

You may also start a post in the 'Wanted' section here.

Do you mean 'lever' with the wording 'tuner'?

Hi Ralf, I actually meant the drum key is missing. All parts are there and functional. My only concern is the rod that goes across inside the drum fits tight in the plastic bushing and doesnt turn as smooth as my other ones. Should I put some WD-40 or grease to make it turn smoother?

Thanks.

PS: someone suggested on an fb forum to check out Majestic/Van der Glas (dutch manufacturer) lugs from that era, they're supposed to be exact copies of Star lugs. So I may have found replacement, will keep you guys posted.

The Majestic lugs came in last night. They fit just right. There are minor differences between Star and Majestic but not very noticeable. Here are some pics. The first pic is of the 2 Majestic lugs. The other pics are showing the differences Star left and Majestic on the right.

And I need longer screws as well, because the Majestics doesn't have the studs that fit in the holes on the shell.

Update: the tension screws don't fit the lug inserts. Bummer, but I may have found a solution. Someone is selling a Star tom shell with lugs. I might buy that for parts.
