Man, oh MAN those look fine! One more thing, when you get an extra few pennies, put the Evans EQ1 coated (it is an opaque head really, not clear or white coated like we think of) on the batter side and see how it booms then! It opens up and no ringing whatsoever.

These are going to make your neighbor proud! And if you get a chance, please make us a video and post it on your youtube page, I wanna hear these puppies sing outloud!

I put an EQ1 clear on the batter side and a Attack 1 ply no overtone on the front. I don`t have anything in the bass drum except the original mufflers and man it sounds great! NO RING!! Best sounding bass drum I have owned. I am "blown away" by the low pitch of these drums. Do most 3 ply shells sound like this? (my first set of 3 plys) My neighbor close to a 1/4 mile away can hear um. I live out in the "sticks", So they are going to continue hearing them.

Wow! VERY NICE! I agree that jonnistix is a great source of knowledge! I too have just about finished restoration of an old Star set! I also have a set of Supremes in charcoal diamond pearl. Since my wrap was really butched and could not be saved, they are being recovered in turquoise sparkle. What kind of hardware are you using? I have a snare stand, foot pedal and two cymbal stands...not too bad. The snare sounds great! Congratulations! Beautiful job, amigo!!!

Yes sirree, all of these early Star and Pearl 3 ply drums sound like this. And you are correct, this type of shell construction is the boominest, lowest toned sound you can get, they are simply amazing i there tone. The bass drums are without equal as far as the low, resonant boom goes. Many drummers gop through their careers turning their noses up at these "fire hazards" and think their "insert brand" sounds like thunder....but when we tell them how great, they tell us we have damaged brains and ears...hehehe let 'em think what they will....
