Star Bongos? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

I picked these up a few days ago. They do not have a badge but I'm thinking they may be......... Star mid-60's?

The heads appear to be original and natural. The t-rods and bottom rings have some good patina and rust going on. Not too bad on the rust. I could have cleaned the bottom rings but they look good as is....I'm leaving them that way. I couldn't resist for $20.......and I had to get them out (save them) from the storefront window they were in....=bad for the finish.

They do like Star bongos. I have this set which looks pretty similar apart from the wrap. The interior is red, too. Nice pick up.

I have some too. They were originally red sparkle but the wrap was brittle and falling off. I refinished them natural, and never got heads for them. Mine also have the red interiors and rerings. Nothing like my GonBop Bongos but seem like they would be decent. Exactly what size heads would work for these? I would not mind rewrapping these in silver sparkle but not sure how the way the drums taper.

I was noticing the metal bottom rims on everyone's and my pic didn't show them. I took a quick look at mine and they are there. Didn't have them back on when I made that pic.

Nice drums everyone!

Ya - these are not like my Valjes haha, but they sound alright...even with the tear in the small (Hembra) drum head and the small hole in the large (Macho) drum. I can't see where my drums once had a badge.....maybe this model did not come with a badge? It's definately original silver sparkle wrap. The painted red inner shell is mid-60's I'm told......later drums were clear.

I was going to try to 'tuck' my own heads. I see that they are sewn around the metal flesh-ring. I'm not quite sure what the proceedure is in doing that but I'd love to give it a try. It looks like the natural heads are wrapped around the metal rings...sewn...and then trimmed off after the heads are seated and dried.

Does anyone here know the exact process?

I know I had a heck of a time figuring out how to 'tack' a tom head. There was nothing online showing how to do that so I ended up jerry-rigging something to make that work. The process looked like something out of a Frankenstein movie.....but it worked in the end.
