Loading...

Hy friends,

like I posted in an other thread, last weekend i bought for about 70$ an old Star 3 piece Set, with it came a Olympic snare that VDF Member stedi already dated as 1005 Premier Snare.

What I would like to know is; what is the name of this set and ap. year it was made?Help2Help2

Ralf tell me;-)

Everything works, some of the parts are not original anymore but I think i made a great deal:-)

What are the shell sizes? The wrap is called "Fantasia Pearl" and is arguably the most, or second most, collectible of all wrap colors Star ever produced. The year is quite hard to make a completely accurate call, but the wrap was made for about 3 years or so. Also, are they 3 or 9 ply shells? Almost all in this color were '68ish to 72-73. The other wrap that is highly prized is called "Peacock Pearl", and is my fave, although I have never had any in that color. Clean them up gingerly, using no steel wool, but you already know that. The wrap may lose a little bit of the mellowing, but not all so they will still have that gorgeous yellowing. It looks like they are evenly mellowed.

Sizes are 20" Bassdrum, mounted Tom is 12" and Floortom is 14"!

The heads are completly shot, but it still sounds quite ok;-)

I have a Tama Royal Star in this finish but its about 76 or 78!

I gues when it`s done up, it might be a cool little kit for small gigs, without loosing the power for Rockmusic;-)band3

Did the deal include everything shown here (hardware too?)? Or is that just staged for pics?

Either way, that is a killer kit!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

The Deal included everything on the picture you can see, plus a 1005 Premier Snare(wich is shown in another thread) some Paiste Dixie Hi-hats in a very good condition and this Paiste Stambul 18" Crash/Ride PLUS an old Vintage Drumchair(wich one is really funny;-))

I also think it is a very good deal, including that the money i gave was spent for a hospital that takes care about kids they have cancer:-)flower

What a great find and what a good thing that your hard earned Euro's went to a good cause.

You did very well for €70,00.

Stambul and Dixie cymbals are both decent quality.

I used to have a Fantasia Pearl Star kit but mine had the later tear drop lugs.

Yours has the earlier 60's type of lugs.

Here some pics: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=32660&highlight=fantasia

The big bonus is that 14" floor tom !!!

I don't believe Fantasia Pearl is "very" rare but like Jonnistix mentioned, it sure is collectable. Must have something to do with the fact that it actually looks like a trip gone wrong. Without a doubt, one of the most outrages drum wraps ever produced.

Well I have never seen a Fantasia Pearl set in person, only pictures. Maybe it's more common across the pond...

Great find for a great price, Christian.

These days, there are more and more experts now for Star drums here, which I appreciate greatly! flower

The other members nailed it already conc. the possible manufacturing period.

One thing to add: the pedals and stands appear to be most probably from the same period and also Star-made. Nice bonus hereto!

Cheers, Ralf

NB: EM sent.
