Getting somewhere with the floor tom

In the pictures you see the re-rings I made by glueing one piece of shell into another. With a tablerouter I made bearing edges and a space for the copper to fall in.

The piece of copper is quite thick (about 1,75 mm) and did not have the right diameter. I thought about rolling it in a metal workshop, but then decided to use some force; I made the re-rings stronger with temporary spokes and simply rolled the copper around tham. I used 2 component metal glue. I had to use brass screws though, to keep both ends of the copper together, the gleu alone could not hold it.

I'm still working on the hoops. I planned to make them creme white, but that looked awfull; no match at all. Now I'm planningon making them dark brown with small tilted blue scquares.

Amazing work Bart. Wow. Hand crafting a tom out of wood and copper is no easy task. Bearing edges look fantastic. Such nice work you do. I'm always in awe of all the talent people here have and share. Bart your way up high on this list~! Thanks!

Your gonna somehow fit sticks into sword handles and play them.

Floortom nearly finished. I tried tilted squares on the hoops. I don't like it. So I'm goning to make the hoops in 1 single colour. It wil be the darker blue on the lower hoop. I'm painting it with oilpaint, so it will take quite some time to dry.

6 of the 8 tension rods were cut down in the past. At that time I thought I would never use them and needed some 8 mm rods with a thread on them, so I cut them off the tension rods. But now it turns out I do need them! So I took the remains, bought some 8 mm steel rods, I welded that onto the remaining parts and cut new thread on them.

Picture of finished floortom will follow in a few weeks, when the oilpaint has dried (I'll make several layers to give it that aged look).

In the meantime I started on the snare drum.

Same recepy: glue one hoop in antoher. Glue metal (NOB) on hoops. Cut bearing edges. I gave this one quite modern bearing edges to make the drum contrast with the bass and toms (that have complete roundovers).

A problem arised: after cutting bearing edges the metal separated from the wood at some places, I quess because of the heavy vibrating. That's bad! I put the heads on and tightened the screws a bit and marked on the drum which part of it will fall behind the alu hoops of the heads. I will screw many small brass screws there. You won't see them, but they will secure the metal on the wood.

The drum doesn't have a strainer yet. I have two old nickelplated strainers and don't know which one to choose yet.

Bart this project is VERY impressive!! You Sir have some skills! Excellent work all around. You can do it all. I hope you can make a video of these when you finish I'd love to hear how they sound.

I thought this was Sparticus (referring to drums of course...):p
