spam from a forum member

not sure were to post this...

i just got this spam email from fellow forumite poppy today. the guy emails me about buying stuff TWICE,says payments on the way and never follows thru.now i'm getting spam? not cool.the address looks like spam to me.if its not,then a little message would of been fine.

i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe someone is using his email for spamming.but if not,then i'm not happy about it. this went to my old email (that should of been closed by now...) but non the less...

I could be wrong, but there was a hacker attack us awhile back and shut the forum down for a few days...and I remember another member mentioned that the same thing happened after the attack....or something like it...??? I apologize if I misunderstood.

I am a Mac user so I wasn't affected by anything. Do you have a Mac or a PC? -just curious.

Looks like he was hacked. The email link shows up as a known hack site on my computer.

It looks like the results of one of the "phishing" attacks going around lately. People get tricked into giving out their usernames and passwords (or they get intercepted or keylogged), and then spammers use those peoples' accounts (via an automated script) to send spam.

I'm a network administrator and we've had three of our system's email accounts compromised this way and used to send out spam in recent months.

I would agree on that and not related to the forum. This happens with Gmail as well as Outlook and other programs like that.

Oh, Iam in the same boat drummerfish somewhat some time ago poppy emailed me about parts and i replyed,but from the time i have done this i get SPAM in my inbox that should go to my Spam box,telling me and asking me[[if my name is] i won this or that i get about 6-8 emails aday..Mikey
