Source for odd sized bongo heads

Loading...

Hi, first post here on the forum and wondering if anyone else has ran into this situation? I'm having trouble finding correct fitting heads for a MIJ bongo set with a US Mercury brand.

When I measure the bearing edge I get 6.25 and 7.75.

I've tried a new set of Remo skins and they where to big. I also got a set from "Hal Leonard" and they are to small! I still have these.

The bongos came with heads but neither fit correctly and where not installed. The large head fits the playing surface but won't allow the hoop to be installed. The smaller head kind of fits but doesn't sit on the bearing edge evenly cause it's slightly smaller.

When I measure the hoops I get about 7 3/8 and 8.5.

I'll try to post photos as soon as I figure out how.

Thanks for any advice or leads to some good fitting replacement heads.

Ebay has some 7.25" and 8.5" heads. Maybe you can find a 7.375" head that would fit the hoop better. I would just try to fit my hoops.

That's where I'm at now...concentrating on the hoop measurements and trying to find out if the heads will be deep enough.

Here is my blue set. They are slightly smaller!

HI John, can you post a image or two of the small head? Maybe some measurements?

The hoops are the same dimensions as your own measurements. The small bongo measures 6 3/8" across between the outer bearing edge.. I could not find a proper head for the larger bongo...

Temporarily I managed to modify an 8" head to fit within the hoop by cutting through the metal frame at the four tension rod points...

Cheers

John
