Sound Proof Room

Loading...

Just wondering if its possible to build a sound proof room in the basement for jamming (with guitars and other instruments) and recording, without the folks in the rest of the house hearing it. if anyone has done that sort of thing or has info as to how to start the project, let me know, Otherwise I'll start the google process.

Thanks, G

For a start, soundproof insulation such as Roxul is a must in the walls and floor joists above...All electrical receptacles and such need soundproof caulking...

Depends on ceiling height. Only true sound proof is a room within a room, and double walls construction. Solid core doors. Really need more info on room size, any windows, interior doors, and ceiling height. lots of information online. Tough project, but plenty you can do to knock down noise transmission with an little searching.

Nice....its a basement, going to be 20 x 20....two sides are cement, two would be built, 8 foot ceiling, open joists. floor is also cement.

Hi Slingerland

One funky problem is that your room is square...HUGE room nodes,so standing waves will prevail too.

BUT Ive heavily treated my small room with Owens Corning 703 and 705 panels, including a suspended section from the ceiling with great results.

It tightens up the room and quiets it down.

I had my son best the crap out of my drums while I went outdoors. While still faint, the neighbors wouldn' t hear anything.
