(Sorta) vintage Tama strainer?

Loading...

Hey y'all. I picked up what appears to be a 1992 Tama Starclassic maple snare. The original strainer has been replaced with a generic one, and it ain't cutting it. Terrible action and without sensitivity whatsoever. It's gotta go. Thing is, I'm having no luck finding an original strainer, or even one that would match the original 4 drilled holes. Looks like 2 new holes were drilled to mount this generic strainer, which I'm not thrilled about, but it is what it is. (See pics)

So, anyone know where to find an original Starclassic strainer, or something that would fit the original mounting holes? Thanks!

The early starclassics used the same throw as the earlier Mastercraft snares (superstar, imperialstar, etc), so you should be able to go well back into the 80s for that 4 bolt pattern. Won't cover the extra holes of course.

Oh, good! Thanks.

Come to think of it, I have a big steel Imperialstar somewhere that I would steal the strainer off of, but I seem to remember something wrong with the strainer that's on that one, too. Something about the square nut thingy that the adjustment knob rod threads down into being stripped out. That's a cool old snare with those floating rods the snare ties roll over....I think I'll dig that one out and throw it on Craigslist.

Thanks again! I'm on the search...
