From PressRoll

I'm new here as well and I'm 29. I have gotten nothing but help an encouragement from everyone on this forum. You are a great group of people and I value how much time you all have put in to help the "next generation" of drummers with an interest in vintage drums.

And we appreciate having you! We need the new generation of drummers to educate on vintage drums and to carry on the tradition.

I've been here since 2010 and have had nothing but great experiences with forum members. I know a fair bit about vintage Ludwig drums and there's a lot I don't know that's why I come here. and I'm 41 and by no means a Millennial. I personally don't think this guy tried hard enough and gave up to easily.

It's a great forum but over the years the tone has changed a bit. A few of the amazing geniuses have disappeared. I am afraid guys like me wore them out. :( But I did go out buy a library of 10-12 references and I'm always looking for more. Funny just opposite happened on the Slingerland Facebook page... The young guys on there are just down right nasty. I lurk much more than post now... still a great forum.

I wouldn't call myself an amazing genius........no....wait.......yes I would :p LoLoLoLoLaughing H

From Apickel

I've enjoyed this forum for many years, and relied on it when I first started getting into vintage drums about 10 years ago (I'm only 31)..I've bought and sold to many of you, with many smooth transactions. I have nothing negative to say in that aspect. However, there's been some recent chatter that will really deflect the interest of vintage drums from even a younger than me populace, and I simply cannot get behind it. There's an amazing group of people on here with knowledge that could truly extend the interest of this hobby, but yet decide to exclude the uneducated with a holier than thou mentality. This is not a family I want to be a part of. What are we doing?!Moderators, feel free to contact me with any questions. For the rest of you, I've had a lot of fun learning the ins and outs of vintage drums, I appreciate everyone that's been involved. I'll still be heavily involved in vintage drums, just not through this forum. Thanks everyone, but I'm out...-Apickrl

Take a step back and try to see things from the other person’s point of view – use criticism wisely and as a learning experience. See if it is possible to learn a little about how others perceive you, you may be able to use criticism to improve your interpersonal skills. Just say'in... :)

Dear heavens.

If I was this fragile, there would be no Big R Dating Guide for Drums and Snares.

I can go back 10-12 years on maybe one or two forums. Everything I posted was against the grain. The research did not support the expert answers. Rather, it routinely conferred that those answers were more myth than fact. It made me cautious. There were some really well known collectors on some of the sites. Everything disagreed with what expert people had been saying for years and years and years. The research supported conclusions that went against the myths. I kept at it. And did not melt.

Snowflakes ought not be in the sun.

Without specifics or clarification from OP no idea what he is on about. I put this post in "Don't let the door ..." Folder.

When I got back into drums after 35 yrs. This forum was the only one that helped with my old Slingerlands.

It is all about giving back. Quite a few of the new young members have done great with there abilities to search out and find old catalogs and such. I know not how to do such things. Many thanks!!

I have a forum and moderate another. If someone with their first question see's 100+ views and not even a "welcome" post they move on and you will never know what could have happened. When a post shows as 1 help if you can.

I have to reiterate what has been said before. I'm 49 and only joined this forum last year with a limited knowledge of vintage drums, but the amount I've learned in the short time I've been here is monumental! I just want to thank each and everyone of you for being so open and helpful.

I can't see where the OP is coming from either, and as has been said before, if someone says something you don't like or agree with, you're not obliged to post a reply and basically start an incident. Move on or ignore it. Everyone's different, and that's why it works here. I should've thought that was obvious.

Also just on the "dot com" generation, I'm certainly not in that class and actually miss the pre-mobile phone days. Doing some research then was fun, hunting something down by running around town and ringing up people was what made it interesting and you actually learnt something, instead of getting an instant Google answer that you can't remember ten minutes later. If the dot-commers can't cope with getting their hands dirty then, as we say in Oz, bugger 'em! Oo roo. Ta Ta. Bon voyage.

Okay, rant over. Carry on dancing, Laze and Gem :D

So! ...

... at 3 pages I shall step in with a few comments: We have all seen this before on the VDF! As I have said many times in the past .. this is an OPEN FORUM .. and whereas we like to see everyone happy to be here!, that is not always the case ... and for a myriad of reasons that only the unhappy, disgruntled, etc. know. That said, personally ... I have always thought it odd that someone would feel the need to "announce" they are leaving. I have no issue with one's leaving of course, as that is their prerogative! ... it's the fact that it "needs" to be announced that I find odd .. unless .. it's an admin/mod that has been in place since the forum's inception. If you need/want to leave, then just leave! You will be missed!, but there are plenty of other forums/chat boards on the net. Course I do believe that we are the ONLY ONE dedicated specifically to vintage drums, and with that said ... carry on lads!
