Sonorus marching snare restoration??

Loading...

Hi everyone,

I got myself a 14" by 10" or 9" (didn't check yet) Sonorus (Belgian brand) marching snare. It's a 8 lugger with center lugs in a kind of red marble/strata.

It's a little ruffed up but no structural damage.

I want to give it a good clean because everything, even the inside of the lugs, is covered in what appaers to be sawdust...

Can anyone shed some light on how I best get the shine back in the wrap and the hardware.

Also, it smells like old lady's perfume and glue gone bad...

Any idea how to get that out? I aired it out over night but that didn't seem to do much.

I hope it'll sound good!! and if it doesn't it'll still look good :p

Any info on wood type, wrap name or birthdate is also much appreciated!!

Thanks

greets

D.

The Novus plastic polish system for cleaning/polishing the wrap (available on ebay)...It will do wonders on it...#3 for heavy scratches, #2 for fine scratches and #1 for polishing and anti-static film to repel dust...

For chrome, I like to use a product called NeverDull...It`s a wadding compound (probably available on ebay as well)...Other chrome polishes would suffice also...

Could you post a pic of the badge? I am a badge collector and do not have this brand in my collection...

My grandfather was from Mol, Belgium...

Cheers

Cool odd drum.I like the copy of the Lugwig lugs..The best way is how ROD posted to vlean up the drum.Funny that you posted about a smelly drum i got get one of Ebay with the same problem..What i did is i used some baking soda to get the smell out of the drum..I put it on the inside of the bottom head-[not much of it and not near the shell]- put the top head back on the drum i let it set got a few days.....Mikey

Hi,

thanks for the reaction!

I would love to post a pic of the badge... If it had one Falling Do

But Stedi, a member here, had a Sonorus kit off the same period with badges I believe ;)

@MIKEY: thanks for the tip!! will try it ;)
