Sonor vintage series

Here they are! Been playing them a lot lately. I have had them a little while but just got around to posting pictures.

20x14 - warm and punchy. Very focused sound and powerful.

12x8 - One of m favorites. So far I like it tuned higher or lower the best. Medium still works.

14x12 - This little guy gets lower than some 16x16's I have played. Getting it tuned low makes it rumble. Tuned high it gives you that "Gretschy" sound.

The set overall is simple, classy, sounds great and has great tuning range. For the drummer on the go the sizes are perfect. I had more trouble getting in and out of gigs with my 22x18. This 20x14 is the ticket. I also think with this series that you could get away more with un-miced gigs than some other series. The 9 ply shells really project.

Again just been busy lately. My friends from Germany were visiting me in the USA!! Plus had a Florida trip. Anyway will likely be getting the matching snare sometime after my SQ2 shows up.

Oh wow mate! They look stunning. Ooozing class. What a lovely finish and that hardware is gorgeous. I've seen them advertised using a sort of slightly pinkish WMP finish that looked great. I bet they sound "phat as!"

Hey guys thanks for all the compliments. I hope to also get the 18x14 bass drum for the kit. Regarding the 12x8 tom; it has a tom mount from the factory. The bass drum does not. Maybe for some this is a huge issue but for me not so much. Maybe I will add a rail mount or maybe just leave it be. Honestly live I usually hang the tom off of a stand. I am going to TRY to get into the studio with this kit. For those wondering here are the Sonor series I have owed:

S Classix

Prolite

SQ2

Phonic

1960's Teardrop (Rounded edges)

1970 Teardrop (45 edges)

Plus artist series snares

Anyway I think I have a good reference for the differences in the series. Not to mention I have owned nearly every brand of vintage drums. I will be doing my actual review once my new Evans heads show up. Nothing wrong with factory heads just my personal taste for Evans. Thanks again for all the compliments.

Pricing can be found here:

Besides Sam I know that Steve Maxwell can get them plus many other drum shops. From someone who used to live in Germany I had Sam send me a kit to Germany that for whatever reason was not available from Sonor in Germany. So yes I think Sam is the man when it comes to Sonor. In Germany I HIGHLY recommend Thomann and Session Musik.

Someone asked me what the differences where in this series vs. Prolite. Keep in mind the edges and shells are VERY different. I think the bass drum and 14x12 floor tom project more volume vs. the Prolite series. Of course this is my personal experience (I have gigged and recorded the Prolites in Germany and around the US so that is my experience). Sound wise they are very much like the vintage teardrop series. The benefits are of course getting any size you want, less hardware drilled into the shells and ease of heads fitting.

Well I will update everyone when I am back from rainy Florida!
