Sonor Toms need help to ID

Hello All,

My name is Bob from NJ. I have 2 Sonor drums that I am having trouble identifying. They are both mounted toms. 1 is 8x12, the other is 8x13. I have attached a pic of the one drum. They are a matched pair. Hopefully someone can ID the year, model and color which is a candy red and black. The picture shows the badge plate with 2 mallets and says Made in Germany. Also shown are the tension lugs.

I hope someone out there can give me an idea of what I have. My dad would know but he's no longer here. I could ask but getting an answer would be tough.

Looks like late 60's or early 70's Sonor teardrop toms. Look for a 3 digit number inside the shell for more accurate dating. More info here: http://www.krdrums.de/8.html

Yes it's the teardrop Tiger finish. I looked at the link you sent. Challenging since it's in German but I found it. As for a serial # there is a 3 digit mark that's stamped inside. Both the 12 and 13 have the same mark. Looks like a thick vertical bar and two 1 's. So it's Bar 1 1?

The badge is ID'd as a 73-75 Champion Series. Were they made in teardrop Tiger. I'm just trying to ID these so I can sell them. My dad had a Rogers Holiday 4 pc set in Red Onyx he wanted to make into a 5 pc. These 2 toms were the closest he could come to finding a pair that matched. These drums have a Rogers Swivomatic mount on them now. He changed it back in 1977.

Bob, The shape of the lug is referred to as the teardrop series.

This is a Champion series kit, ....not what you have by the shape of the lug, but the drilling is the same machine.

This is Kenny Clark play`n a kit like yours from the mid sixties where I believe your kit is from. Is there a three digit number stamped inside the drums ?

I want to say it`s early 70`s maybe 70/71 only because I`ve seen champions drilled the same way with the badge /damper/vent on the same panel near the mount.

But I need a number from inside to do that otherwise I can place that badge without the second piece in the mid sixties between the 2 two piece badges. There were three single type badges at different times of the sixties. There were 2 two piece badges from early to late. There was mallet logo and maybe script logo in the sixties early too. So it`s kinda difficult dating without the numbers because the timeline is not sure and that`s only because in the sixties, SONOR never kept records of any kind really.

The lugs are teardrop (therefore 1960s) and the wrap is listed as Ruby Pearl in the 1969 catalog, the badge however is an early 1970s badge. The stamp you see may be zero(smudged)-one-one, which means November 1970. That's my guess.
