Sonor Teardrop

The finish is called Kristall (in the German 1963 Sonor catalog). Originally, it has been silver and black stripes. With age, it fades like this, resulting in a greenish-gold look.My guess is that this kit is not a 3 ply. The tom mount suggests to me that it is a later design, but Oddball will now when he sees this. This link may be helpful in dating the kit.I have a ca 1958 3-ply early teardrop kit in this finish. I've had people comment on it saying that this is the most beautiful drum kit they've ever seen. The finish looks much better IRL than in my lousy picture./Magnus

Yup. I see the mount and the long neck lugs (64/65) so good chance six ply. However there are many cases of people getting six ply kits with a three ply bass and second hand buyers calling it a three ply bass with six ply toms,....Confusing but it happens. Date stamp helps.

The three ply were made in steam ovens and six ply made in oil heated ovens and that factory change happened same timing.

65 was the badge change and six ply everything top line.

What kind of value would you put on this kit? I don't want to over pay.

For me, the rarity and a lot of the value in them is a matching snare, without that $100 a drum 3 ply, no more than $150 for 6 ply.

So, $300-450? That's seems pretty low for a Sonor teardrop.

I believe it's called Krystal Schwarz, here's a kit in the same finish.

I used to date Krystal Schwarz's sister Bubbles.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

With a matching snare of Teardrop quality, could hit $900 to 11 hundred. I look at it that three shells is all you get then go into spending for a complete.

You might stop buying drums if ever get a well kept 70's Phonic kit.

Well, I just checked Reverb sold listings and a kit like this sold for just over $1,200, with no snare. There were some satin flames that went over 2 grand.
