Sonor teardrop question

Loading...

Hi Sonor Experts has anyone ever owned/played Sonor's 6 ply beechwood shells? I have the chance to pick up a 12-16-20 in bery nice shape for $350. Also, how sturdy is their late 60's tom mount? Thanks very much for any input.

They are very good drums and that's a good price. I own quite a few Sonor 6 and 9 ply beech drums. I have one of those tom arms which is very sturdy. I'm not familiar with that specific tom mount.

If you are tall and the pole is up high it will rock back and forth if you play hard. The mount itself is a wedge system that wont move at all. The wedge itself is made of plastic and if abused will ware on the edges or break and then you need to replace it because it wont hold much. Make sure the inside support brace is under the top BD mount or the point will work through the wrap. The brace helps reduce shaking, and down low they wont rock at all.

If they are in good condition and you don`t force them, you will have no problems at all with them. They solved the rocking problem with later Phonics by making a bigger BD plate.

You can`t beat that price.

We love pics.

No problems with my '64. I like the mounting system. Bright sound out of the shells.

great drums. Very well made.

Beech is a dense hard wood with a sound between maple and birch.

6 plys are favs of jazz players.

9 plys are known to be great hard rock/metal drums

if the wrap is good and the chrome is not rallied, @350 is a great price.

lugs and some other parts are not too hard to find. Tension rods are a bit pricey and rims are kinda hard to find.

Dave,

If you don't buy the kit I am very interested. I would pay you a fair finders fee.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the input. I'm torn between this kit and a Rogers Holiday mutt kit - silver sparkle. The Rogers is $800 more however but same sizes.

Thanks again.

I am receiving personal emails about this kit. First of all, I mistakenly put $350 as the sellers price. It is actually $450 for those who might be interested.

Secondly, I have no idea if my replies are going thru successfully. It's probably me but, while this web site is a wealth of great information, I find it nearly impossible at times to navigate through it. I am slowly phasing out of VDF membership for this reason.

All the Best,

Dave

I`m one of the most computer illiterate people on the planet, this site is all click and read or click and post. Pretty easy stuff.

Do you mean putting up pics or something ?

I have a late 60's 20" Sonor bass, it sounds great. I wish I had the the toms to match it!
