Sonor stands

Guys I have been busy! One project after another. I start a project and always end up needing something I have to find. Most of it is vintage so its a search, not just a purchase. So, while im searching anxiously and waiting for a reply, I find something else to clean on or polish. Then I find something cool on craigslist or a pawn shop, buy it, and now have a whole new set of goodies to play with lol. Ever since my girlfriend suggested I put one of my drum kits in the Living room a few months ago, I have been busier n a one legged man in a$$ kicking contest! I drug em all outta the closet, and set the luddy's up in the corner of the livin room, and the teardrops up right in front of the tv. Then i found the floor tom for the sonors in canada. 1st thing i restored was my so called rogers 20" floor tom. It is a slingerland as best I can tell. I wrapped it to semi match my luddy's. I replaced the lugs and yes I still have to old ones. lol. Tonite, while I await my original 1960 slingy lugs and badge from a fellow forum member, that I had already orderd repros of on the internet, are also on the way, sheesh!! lol, Anyway while im waiting, Im gonna polish this amazing original 60's Sonor hi hat stand and snare stand. This will be the last segment of my sonor teardrop restoration. I took lots of pics of the whole process, and bugged the sh*t out of all of y'all to get it done. I took lots of pics. These stands are cool y'all!

Definitely one of the coolest snare stands I've seen. I would rate it right up there with the Rogers Swan Leg (one of my faves). Nice Nice Nice.

Stands are finished. It's still early, what else can I polish? lol

Im a friggin drum aholic. The snare stand cleaned up nicely. It had a slight corrision on a alloy or pewter part. I hit it with a steel brush and it did good. The rest I just polished with wadding and bounty and polishing cloth. The Sonar 14X4.5" snare looks fabulous on its ooriginal stand, I totally restored it myself! The hi hat turned out fabulous as well! The chrome didnnt have much rust on it and everything still works perfectly! Atop the sonar Hi-Hat stand sit a pair of Zildjian A Custom 14" Hi hat Cymbals! Enjoy guys,

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Sonor stuff always cracks me up...I mean, it's like they had some mad engineer Jump For Joy locked up in the basement of the factory, and every now and again they'd let him out !

I love their hardware...crazy 'hat stands, crazy drum stands, crazy cymbal stands... and arguably some of the most over-designed internal mufflers in the history of drum making !

Awesome. Those older Sonor stands are super sexy and would be perfect for a vintage gig. And easy to transport to. A friend of mine uses them in an oldies band. Very cool.

The sonors were very easy to restore as far as Im concerned. The legs on the stands pull off for transporting to gigs. They werent so over engineered like thier cars are. The drums all came apart easily and went right back together without a hitch, No stripped nuts, or tension rods. No major underlying damage to repair. The lugs dont have springs holding the nuts in place, however the nuts in the lugs are held in place with a little peice of foam rubber or something. All the foam had deteriated and i replace the little pieces of foam with weatherstriping. We restore antique car interiors at my shop. There is almost always underlaying damage that needs attention.

For instance: Pull the carpet out and theres rust holes in the floorboard. etc... German cars are considerably more difficult to work on. The germans lost the war because they over engineered thier guns. Thier soldiers couldnt work on them when they got dirty and jammed. Our soldiers could take thiers apart and fix em and go kick some german butt!!!

lol

They might have been the first company to abandon internal springs on their lugs, actually.

Well I found a 60's sonor cymbal stand to go with my kit, and a bass drum pedal drom that era also. My teardrops are almost complete. Just a few more cymbals and they will be complete.

I recieved my other stand friday and restored it yesterday. It had 2 pipes that were dented all to hell. Of course the dents didnt show on the pics in the ebay listing. I robbed a few pipes off of another stand and removed the clamps and stuff off of the sonor pipes and it all turned out nicely.

I have my new super tyrko ride cymbal on the cymbal are that's attached to the bass drum. I had an old ajax crash for this stand. It dont sound so hot but looks good with the tyrko. They look more silver than brass. or a brassy silver. I have a 60's bass drum pedal on the way.
