Sonor Snare ID heip

.... ah and the sonor "imperial" lugs where never made in plastic,always metal. @oddball, I really think the snare drums shown in the sonor catalog where leedy sold by sonor since leedy made a lot of stencil snare drums. If i remember correctly this has been talked about in the drumhistory podcast. but you never know. a lot stuff did got made in the "Musikdreieck" by companies for america too. I guess there is still a debate on that. Sonor did call the "leedy snare" the american modell - so I guess this is again a hint towards importing the thing from america!

Thanks for the ID help and the info. The lugs on this drum are metal. I thought I would post a few picks of the lugs side by side. Sonor on the left and Ludwig on the right. The hole spacing on the Sonor is just a hair longer.Cam

Thanks for those pictures! I had no idea that Sonor used these lugs!

sonorfan! Thanks for supplying that picture! I've looked all over to find a set of Sonor drums with those lugs and couldn't find any at all!

Ok, I heard all the budget line were plastic. But I have no chance to see them or side by side them, Those photos are the first side by side I ever seen. Looks like the SONOR lugs are a bit bigger.

Interesting you say that about the snares, I did look around a few years back and found that Leedy exported the stick throw to Europe. The only difference I could see without having one was the tip of the throw lever.(maybe gauge as well) The lugs and rods were made at SONOR so Leedy would have to agree to let SONOR build them. Bill and Horst had a good friendship, they agreed not to sell each others markets and I'm sure that some ideas and prints were exchanged by word, that's how close friends they were. The Supra and Phonic snares have exact throws except the SONOR throw is twice the gauge and almost twice as big. I have both throws. Lots of close similarities before the 40's and a few after between the big two.

One day Henk will get in that SONOR museum basement and find one of these (holy grail) snare or plans. I think they are international sized too but nobody can actually get one, that war took it's toll. I think the gunmetal was before the BB but not too sure. I don't know when the first SONOR gunmetal was made.

This is a great comparison, Now I know for sure the Ludwig has two ridges and the SONOR has three.
