Sonor S Class

I ended up trading for this kit not to long ago.

It has 3 issues though, and I was hoping to get your advice.

1. One of the bass spurs is gone

2. One of the floor tom leg mounts is gone

I contacted Sonor about the leg mount and spur to see if they might have some spare parts or alternatives they recommend. The responded and suggested drilling and installing Prolite mounts. I wasn't wanting to drill additional holes, but does being instructed by the manufacturer give me a pass? lol At the same time a RIMS style floor tom leg setup wouldn't drill holes and would cost similar. But I tried clamp on spurs and they just don't hold these crazy hoops.

3. The previous owner let the rack toms rub on the bass drum which damaged the finish some. I think a decent amount of it should be easy to buff out, should I do something to repair the lacquer?

Here's some pictures anyways, because regardless they are beautiful drums that sound incredible.

Update:

I'm in communication with Gerd. He says he thinks he might have the bass drum spur. My only concern is the shipping cost from Germany.

That being said, I have a lead on a Sonic Plus kit that has missing pieces but has the legs I need and would make for a spare parts kit. It is $200 but the shipping is $150.....and it's 1000 miles away so driving is not an option.

Shipping of parts isn't as expensive as that of drums (obviously) and I think you'll be a lot happier with the original - trust me, I had a Sonic Plus set with the exact same hardware :) And those guys in stdrums are really nice. Alternatively, I could ask someone at Sonormuseum, in case they have spares.

Repairing those scratches shouldn't be too difficult - wet sanding usually takes care of most of the damage in the gloss. The color underneath is probably water-color used for wood. If the color is also damaged, you might be able to find a close match at a hardware store.

Those series of drums were hugely underrated for some reason - both the Sonic Plus (100% German birch) and the S-Class (100% maple)...

I have had good luck with "hiding" small scratches using a color felt pen, or color stick for wood finish repair.

I have the Sonic Plus and I agree they are great drums (just a step down from the S Class, or maybe just earlier). The tom mounts were pretty bad, much better on the S Class. I complained to Sonor and they actually very graciously sent me replacements but they still hadn't gotten them to work very well at the time yet! If anyone ever sees any natural finish drums out there let me know as I wouldn't mind adding on at some point!

What grit do you suggest for a wet sand? I have 2000.

I agree, they are fantastic drums, just seem to be ahead of their time. When people see mine they are fascinated by the hardware.

I did a little digging and have found that the 1st Gen S Class drums were actually a Maple/Birch hybrid shell
