Sonor Jazz Kit

From drummingbulldog

I meant no disrespect by the trash/treasure comment. For me, since I already own a classic Ludwig, I think I would like a crack at those Sonors. Back when I was in high school they had those old 80's catalogs which showed the guy standing on the shell. I wanted some Phonics so bad. All I knew was that Steve Smith played them and I loved his sound and tone. Remember the Separate Ways video where the drums disappear? Nicko McBrain played them too. Then I found out Jack Dejohnette played them too and so did a lot of really great players. I love that finish and the jazz bop sizes.

Jack DeJohnette still plays Sonor, as does 'Tain' Watts, Adam Nussbaum, Steve Smith, Joey Baron and too many Europeans to name.

IMHO, there are still no finer drums made today.

Yeah I was giving the Sonor's props. I love them too. I just don't own any at the moment.

These are Sonor Phonics, late 1970s or early 1980s, I'd say. If the 14" is a floor tom, then this is a classic Phonic bop kit, which is the most sought after kit config for Phonics. Also, the finish is rosewood (as it clearly says on the badge of the pic of the tom), which is arguably the most attractive finish.

So, if these drums are in good condition they may be worth 2-3000 USD, depending on available takers.

I have a Phonic bop kit like this but in Natural Oak finish. It is a very nice kit.

Poppy, this is a no-brainer. You should let the guy take his pick of your gear. That kit is all the money, twice what a "classic Ludwig" is worth. You know me, and I would never tell my best buds to give a spin to something out of whack, but this is the real deal, one we all salivate over. Give it a go!

They did have a darker and lighter run with the Rosewood, now that I look again, it don`t have the grain of oak !! I wonder wich one was real !!

Poppy put alot of work into his Citrus Mod. Although I think the Sonor is the better drum, tough to part with family !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
