Bart, That Looks Brass to me,...Never heard of it before but will investigate.

It`s possible it went out with a Champion series to an Endorser. 453 is budget line. Look inside a lug threads to see if it`s casted in brass.

Throw and lugs.

I checked: the lugs are some cast metal, but not brass.

Snare superficially cleaned. Ready for shipping to Canada.

Nope, no badge. Just the sonor logo on the lugs.

The early 70's badge usually was a stick on foil badge and the would also have a small stick-on on the throw off.

Here's some info from a member of the museum site with an extreme amount of vintage sonor knowledge. Hope you don't mind the copy/paste.

From Henk at the sonormuseum:

I read that thread, but it's very unusual to be a Brass shell.

Mine is magnetic, has rolled edges and has a seam. So it's a ferro shell.

The extra hole is simply the vent hole.

The snare in the thread has early Swinger hoops, can't say if these are factory attached, because there's only one picture of this snare in all the Sonor catalogs (indeed the Ranger leaflet). That would mean that these D453 snares were build earlier than the start of the Ranger series.

Mine has the later and pictured triple flange hoops. I also never seen these D453 with Swinger hoops, so probably put on later.

Hope this makes some sense.

Henk

Hope this helps, Gary

Here`s a Teardrop COB later shell. The budget series and Champion series came right after the teardrop was cancelled.

Any extra shells in storage can be outfitted. SONOR made anything for you.

Just thinking outside the shell........

Hello to all,

I thought this might be a good thread for my question.

I came across this advertisement, it says it is a Sonor D453. It is priced for 100 Eur. Is it original and is it worth that money?

thank you.

That particular model with those lugs and throw was cataloged advertised with the Medley beginners kit.

It looks like the top hoop has been replaced. Even though it`s a SONOR top hoop, the splay showing indicates it went with a different lug. Notice the bottom has no splay.

It`s possible SONOR put it there, but unlikely.
