Sonor Big Beat

Hy,

can some of you guys tell me something about the Sonor Big Beat Series?

Would it be worth to buy the Set in the link for 390 Euro?

They have the same 6-ply beech shells as higher end Sonor kits of the same period, but the lugs are made of 100% plastic. Chrome plated plastic which contain threaded tab inserts and are attached to the shells with metal screws and washers. The hoops for the toms are also if not entirely plastic, then some heavily plasticized metal alloy. Surprising thing is that they actually do work, and work quite well without breaking, providing that they are cared for and given maintenance and attention. The kit is a "beginner" type of outfit designed for lower cost and less weight. So, here's where my advice must end - if the price as advertised is one you feel justified by the information above, then you will be happy purchasing the drums. Otherwise you should set your sights on the higher end Sonor drum kits.

Tschuss! (please forgive the lack of umlaut!)

The Ranger kit,..Like Buckie said, a beginner kit for youth. A pro will beat down a flimsy kit like that in no time. The mounts are limited mobility, and the straight leg FT`s wobble uncontrolably. The kit is not a good kit to gig with but is to buy your teen a first see if they`re interested kit because it`s not expensive at all. In that condition, $100 Tops.

Its a deal but the shipping cost to austria wont be a deal.

Those are seriously heavy, try to look on German eBay for them , or Champion model

Weren't they actually called the SWINGER series? I had a kit of them. The lugs are almost spot-on plastic Ludwig classic copies.

Swinger outfit had more options with the tom mounts. This Ranger outfit is part of the budget days as well, Champion series ran the same year with them and you could still get learner kits till the early eighties !i It`s been said that some of these series also had metal lugs too !i
