Loading...

Hello Gens,

I found this set but I can’t find too much info about it. Beside I’m not sure what kind of model it is. So I would be grateful if someone of you advise me is this set quite ok and more or less how much it can be worth.

Regards from cold Poland.

Looks like a Sonor Acryl set from the 70's. Check out this link

http://www.sonormuseum.com/1979/acrylics.html

This set might be interesting to Sonor collectors and "Vistalite" collectors alike. If the bottom hoops are included and the drums are in decent shape (no cracks, etc.) and they were for sale in the U.S. I would probably feel that $600-900 would be a good price. However, if they were mint and complete you would probably pay more than 3 times that price. Wesołych Śhviąt Bozego Narodzenia

That set of Sonor's[mid-70's vintage] is a nice set made better than Ludwigs vista set the shells are thicker made..Yes these set are rare to come by Sonor made these is three colors clear,smoke,blue..if the set is in good to very good condition with No cracks they sell in the U.S for 1,200.00 and Up...The sound is very good with the right heads on it to me its a set best to play out-side then in-side,but that's just me....Mikey

In general, acrylic sets experience a hype these days, even more if it's a famous name like Sonor.

Search for cracks all around (even around the lugs): if there are none, it's fantastic and will push the price up.

Hello,

Thanks for help and info,

Due to very long distance I wasnt able to check it myself but I spoke with owner and all should be fine.

I bought it for something like 700$. I need to buy hoops and heads but i beliewe that resoult will be very nice.

What king of heads do u prefere for this kind of set? I would be greatefull for sugesstion. Moreover do you thing that this snare from photos is also Sonor from oryginal set? Those lugs are strange and Im not sure about it.

I will get it in my hands on the begining of next year.

Regards

Hello,

that snare should be a MIJ one. It's not from Sonor.

Furtheron: is the set a mix of smokey and blue acrylic? The second rack tom and the floor tom appear darker.

$ 700 would be a rather high price, but that depends also to the area where you live and the cymbals that come with it ...

That snare is a Pearl and will sound just fine, no matter what "brand name" it will have on it. Tune the way you like it and it will smoke for you. I am using Aquarian Z-100 heads these days and they are really nice for mellow music. If you are a heavy hand, use some 2 ply heads and they should play well for you.

Choosing heads is a personal, yet periodic problem. What type of music you play will be the biggest indication of what heads to play. Jazz, a lighter, tighter head, Metal...well a heavy duty 2 ply...see what I mean?

Good buy on those drums! Very nice!
