anyone have any experience with Sonor 3001 kit? Do you know when & where they were made? and what wood they used?

There is a smokin' deal on a very nice Sonor 3001 kit nearby, just wondering if these are worth buying? It is a 5-pc set, mint shape, $450

Last time I owned a Sonor kit was 1977......those were great drums!!

Thanks.

3001 should be 90s, I think. Maybe still made in Germany, from european wood. A quality kit for sure. I don't know what the usual price is.

The price is a little high for a "Chinese" made Sonor drum. Now I know for a fact the new Sonor Ascent though made in China has European sourced wood. I was at the Sonor factory in 2012 as part of a special event. Anyway here is some information about Sonor drums:

I have been playing Sonor for a while and have 3 Sonor kits and many snares. Hope this helps!

Not sure if it helps but, I have a 16" Sonor 3001 floor tom that I have abused to no end. I have a remo pinstripe on it, and it sounds great, surprisingly great. It was cheap, but nothing has ever budged on it, really solid. I think the 3001 was the first of the made in China shells, with Chinese hardware made from the German molds. The 3001 should be a notch above the 2001, and 1001 Force kits.

I am considering selling these Anaheim Orange stained/lacquered ddrum Dominions (discontinued with die cast hoops) in order to acquire a Reflex. Am I crazy?

According to the Sonor Museum page the 3001 is Chinese (KHS factory) made with basswood shells.
