Soliciting opinions on lug/hardware finishes........

Loading...

Hello,

I acquired a Tama Stagestar kit for cheap a while back. 12/14/18. Boring black wrap. I actually have another one of these kits, and they sound great for "cheap" drums. I was going to make my version of the PDP Concept Wood Hoop Bop Kit with these. See photo.

I'm going to stain them with a dark walnut stain and use a matte/satin lacquer on them, with the natural wood hoops and claw hooks shown in the photo. Here is my question that I would like your opinions on:

I was going to go with tube lugs, because they look classy and I think it would look nice in those sizes. I am trying to decide between chrome or brass tube lugs. I can also get brass tension rods, brass claw hooks, brass floor tom legs and brass spurs from Drum Factory Direct. I think the brass would be really elegant against the dark stain. What would you choose? Would all brass "fixin's"-like tension rods and floor tom legs be too much or too gaudy? Would the brass look out of place with regular chrome stands?

I appreciate your comments,

V

I believe DFD sells satin finish hardware too. Also, it might depend on how the badges looked with the respective hardware.

Maybe you could try out a few different pieces before buying hardware for the whole kit. Snap some pics and get some more opinions from the interior decorators on this site.

if the exterior ply of your kit looks good after de-wrapping it, a nice stain will look awesome combined with brass hardware and 1" maple rims. I would stay away from generic PDP look a like nasty lugs to favor brass tube lugs. I used single tension rods on these but tube lugs are nice...It won't be cheap but you will be proud of it.

Unless you can get brass bass drum spurs, floor tom legs and all tom mounts brass, then I think it looks less-than-matched. Therefore, I'd go with chrome. Too bad nickel silver isn't an option.
