Snare wires

Loading...

I'm new to actually playing the drums (at least since 30+ years ago) and recently picked up an old set of Ludwigs for the basement. I believe that the snare is a Pioneer model and it's all original except for the heads and the snare wires which I noticed just have a "Taiwan" sticker on them and are 12-wire set.

Would I notice a real big difference in the sound of the drum if I were to put a better set of snares on it, and what type, brand, etc. should I look for? I think these came with a 20-wire snare originally, didn't they? The drum actually sounds pretty good but it seems like it could be a little "crisper".

I have used Puresound snare wires on a Slingerland Artist Maple and it sounds great, however they are one of the most expensive brands on the market.

I also used standard Pearl sanre wires on a COB dynasonic and it too sounds great. They are decently priced at around $12.

I recommend either of the two.
