Snare strand problem Last viewed: 27 seconds ago

Hey everyone

I've been tuning my snare drum like crazy LM402 (experimenting with different tunings) and no matter what I do or tune them, there always is an irritating snare buzz after I hit the snare drum.

-The snare drum stands alone in a room, so there are no other drums that can create symph. snare buzz.

-I have changed my snare reso head from a Ludwig x thin to a Remo ambassador marching snare side head (no collar), but still no difference...

Do you guys know what would be the problem?

I can sympathise, a had 64 51/2" supra with chrome over brass hoops, I was so exited to have this drum but there was this terrible problem of whenever I hit or played it the snares would just buzz, giving it a very sloppy sound. It didn't matter what I did - tuning , changing heads , more tensioning etc. it just wouldn't have it, I still can't understand what was wrong with it. I part exed it for a premier cob hi- Fi snare. I wish I could have had a good supra though. Can you give me as much information as you can about that particular ambassador snare reso head as I remember thinking it I wanted to try one on my slingerland Artist snare. Also check if your drum lays flat ( everything even).

Ive heard of people placing a bit of tape underneath the endplates of the snare wire. Never tried it myself, maybe others can chime in.

you could compare the snare beds of your drum to the snare beds of similar drums (same type, year etc.). Who knows, maybe there has been some production error. I've had a Premier snare with snare beds that were off-set for about 3 inches!!!!

Try a 16 strand snare. (no need bying one, you could remove strands from an old 20 strand snare (2 left, 2 right)).

loosen the tension on the lugs left and right of the strainer.butt end a bit.
