Snare Identification

What do y'all think this is? Does it ring any bells for anyone? The owner thinks it's a Ludwig but I don't know myself. Hoping to get better pictures sent to me but it doesn't look promising.

Obviously, has had the top rim replaced with what looks like a Ludwig rim (different plating and curved edge like my Ludwig's). I'm by no means an expert, just an old ****, but I'd guess MIJ seeing how the snares are attached.

Looks like a Ludwig throw off. I'd guess that it is an early Ludwig (with the top hoop replaced) but hard to say for certain based on the limited pictures.

Might be one of these. I wonder what the value would be without the original top hoop and in average condition.

An interior shot might help as to identify whether it is a heavy 2 piece shell or a later one piece shell. The '18 model would be the heavy shell and have a very large bead as compared to later models. The hoops claws would also be steel and not brass.

That looks like an old Ludwig Universal from the early to mid 20's.

There's somebody on eBay trying to get @ $500 for one.

I got mine last summer for $1. It cleaned up pretty well with some of that Cape Cod polish (the picture is before cleaning.)

The original hoop would have "Ludwig Universal" engraved on it.
