I had a couple of MIJ snare drums that sounded like the snare drums they were made to replicate, like Slingerland and Gretsch. Some of these snare drums sound beautiful because of the aged Philippine Mahogany. I put a Remo Fiberskyn emperor and snare side heads on them and they sounded killer !
You most likely have that same type of snare drum, mostly made by Pearl in the 60's and early 70's.. A lot of drummers underestimate the sonic quality of some MIJ drums..Decently manufactured MIJ "stencil drums" would be 60's Stewart, and is probably the most popular of the MIJ stencil kits.. The bass and snare drums were 8 lug and tuned up nicely. Bolero made some o.k kits as well. As far as value goes, i seen an entire vintage Stewart kit go for $450 Canadian dollars, so a snare in perfect condition would maybe bring in between $50-$75, but judging by the condition of your snare drum , you won't get more than $30, so there isn't much demand, unless it is someone who collects MIJ vintage drums..Bottom line, don't expect a fortune for your drum, but if you put quality heads and tune it up nicely, you should have a great sounding little drum for a fraction of the cost :))
