Snare Drum Tuning

Loading...

I often see videos with snare drums tuned at various pitches described as low, medium, high etc. How do these terms relate to fundamental frequencies...

e.g. is low =E3 or med =G3 and High= A or above

This is for a 14 inch snare

I think those notes would vary with the depth and composition of the shell, head type, brand, rim type etc. A "High" tuning on an 8 X 14 will be lower than a 3 X 14. How about...Don Henley's snare=low and Stewart Copeland =High. I would like to mention, not to be too "flip" on this subject, that I have noticed on some songs that the toms are in tune with the song itself whether by accident or on purpose. I always tune my drums to their low resonant fundemental. So I'm more Don Henley...
