snare drum project complete!!!

Loading...

hey people.

my first snare project is finally complete!! phew.

i don't think it looks too bad, considering it's my first go!

the tuning could do with some work though.

i've just spent 2 hours in the kitchen, putting it together and tuning it.(putting it together took about ten minutes!)

it's very "ringy". uis this because it was a tom tom in a previous life? or is it the heads?

would a coated head be better? or a dampening ring?

any thoughts/tips/feedback?

cheerz! Bowing

heres some pics.

TRy a coated Amb, as you would on any other snare. That will tone it down somewhat. Are you running a medium weight on the snare side? I run the Evans med, 200, on my thinner shell snares and thinner snares. Gets a better tone, less ring and more response.

thanx jonni. thought it might be just a case of a coated head.

my next project is with a 12" tom shell.

i'm thinking of cutting it in half, and making two popcorn type snares.

and with popcorns usually being 10x6", these will be 12x4", so i'm thinking they could be a poppolo snare. a piccolo/ popcorn hybrid?!?

you never know......
