I'm working on rebuilding a COW Slingerland snare drum. The piece I'm missing is the butt plate. Spacing is 48 mm.
I found one at drummaker with a 46 mm spacing, and I could make that work but I'd rather not go that route.
If I can't find one, I may drill the shell, but that's not my favorite idea either.
Any ideas?
I found ONE. I found it -- once again -- in my basement. It was attached to the shell of a marching band snare I bought a long time ago.
But that may not be the best move. I just realized that the marching drum shell is one ply. Well, what the hell. I'll hang on to the bits and pieces, 'cause who knows?
Still, I'd like to find a new-ish one that fits -- just in case.
Is it similar to a Ludwig P-43 in style? Sometimes those butt plates can be bent slightly to accommodate the hole spacing if it's initially a little bit off. I've done that with P-43 style butts in the past, and it's worked fine.
I like P-43 butts and I cannot lie! (Doesn't have the same ring to it).
