Snagged a 22' A ride. Stamp thoughts?

Loading...

Picked up this 22' today. It was real dirty and stained, so I cleaned it up a bit with some zims(it was gross). By the stamp, can anybody give make a ballpark of the age? The pic of the back seems like the cymbal was hammered by hand, not like the newer A's. Can that be true? Thanks for any info.

That's quite an old one. That's the 1954 trademark. I also have a cymbal from this same era, which is a 24" that I bought from one of out members here. You can see that this is also hand hammered:

I'll bet yours sounds good too.

These are just as desirable as the trans stamps in my opinion, but the general public doesn't know what they're looking at when they see one.

Thanks for the info. You stated 1954. Normally I see the responses being "early 50's" or "late 60's".....you get the idea. What, if you don't mind me asking, makes this stand out as a 1954 and not say, "mid 50's"? I like the idea of such an acurate date for the cymbal, just wondering what pinpoints it and if it is in fact a 1954. Again, thanks for the info, and it does sound nice. It has some serious edge wobble when opened up.

D, are you an engineer? I was looking at an old cymbalholic post and you spoke of blowing the locomotive horn. I'm a Track foreman up here in NY (GCT). Small world.

Yes small world indeed. That trademark on a cymbal that's hand hammered means it can only be from 1954.
