small calfskin hole repair.

I have a 20" calfskin bass drum head that I want to use as a resonant head. A previous owner used it as a batter head. It has a small hole in the center ( about 1/4" ). Is there a way to make a patch on the inside to cover the hole that will allow me to use the head as a resonant head? All thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks, Jerry.

Jerry I never tried this but have seen people glue a small piece of old drum head over the hole. For a reso head it might be ok? I guess a scrap of calf skin would be best but maybe a old Remo if no extra skins around.

Thank you very much for the response. Any idea what glue would be best to use? Also, should it be weighted down while drying? I'm thinking I will put the patch on the backside of the head.

ive used hide glue and a small piece of old skin you'd be surprised how good it holds up

Had the same issue and cut two round patches from another calf head, placing one inside and one out. Used a fabric glue which is flexible after drying and a small 10 pound weight during the drying period. Worked perfectly and is still holding!

FYI

Never play it the same way once.

the hide( made from animal hides) glue is very stringy and will flex beyond so it is a perfect blend with strength and it is all natural,,,

a dead skin graft bond, works well to each other all natural ingredients, do u remember that old glue with the split rubber tip we used in class when we were in grade school? that's a weaker form of horse hide glue same principal except get it from Tandy leather company ive had a few cal heads with repairs like that and on batter side no issues ...
