JonniYou're implying that bass and tom drums were at some time solid maple drums, and they were not.For a short period of time bass drums were solid mahogany or walnut, but not maple.Solid maple snares were available until 1964.1948 is not the beginning of the 3-ply era, they were the top-of-the-line mainstay of their production from 1928 to 1978. I'm stopping now, cause all I'm really doing is re-stating dates and facts from the Good Dr.'s article anyway. It's a great source of information that's available to all who care to read it.

Well, I am not implying it, lonecomic says that is the way it came down. I asked him for some input to see what someone from the plant floor might know and to see what input we could get from him. I'm only reporting what he says.

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with Lonecomic.

I've read the articles from Dr. Wenk and I've read Lonecomic's posts on Slingerland information.

I'm going with the Dr.'s research on this one.

He hasn't let me down yet.

Jonni, have you read those articles in the Slingerland section of the Drum Guide yet?

Not yet, Kev. I am still cramming my pea-brain with all the MIJ crap I can get in there. I do one step at a time....Cool Dude

Since there are an obscenely vast majority of American Vintage experts on this forum, I am taking it upon myself to become as much of an expert on MIJ as I can so that others don't get lost in the shuffle. You know, when people come looking for info on these poor, misunderstood drums, there are few enough of us that are really going to any length to help others with getting the info they want/need/desire...

So, how did I do with those, ahh, passages?

Not bad, for a MIJ freak........:)

Justa funnin' with 'ya man.....

I really dug all that work you put into the WMP rebuild, and the vids you made on shell repair.

Oh yeah, I used your mineral oil trick for cleaning t-rods tonight. Worked GREAT !!

I'm sending off a clamshell strainer for a repair, and that gave me a good reason to go back and re detail that drum, so I did the mineral oil thing.

Sexy, and Shiny.... and very quick as well !!!

Thanks for all your help!!

Kev
