Slingy experts! Need some info on 60s/70s shells Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I picked up a black/silver niles badge kick drum w/ the chocolate milk interior - and found a matching rack tom. Can't find a damn floor tom to save my life, BUT I came across what looks to be an early 60's floor tom w/ re-rings.

There's no badge - in fact it's just the shell & lugs - and is stamped P-040 inside. The shell inner is natural, almost mahogany looking. Also has the double felt muffler

Will the floor tom sound drastically different than the other two? What do you think the story is w/ the floor tom?

Thanks much!

No you'll be very happy with the floor tom, what type of mounts are on the floor tom legs push buttons or t handle mounts?

There are no floor tom leg brackets - it's just the shell. Would you know what the shell ply configuration is?

I had a WMP black/silver badge slingy kit and loved it! I dunno why Slingy stuff seems to get a bad rap w/ the vintage nazis.

Slingerland drums are good drums. Never had one I didn't like.

Those are normally mahogany outer ply, poplar middile ply and mahogany inner ply 3 ply shells with solid maple re rings. Much like the old Radio Kings they have a nice warm sound.

Also by the look of the re ring that shell would be late 50's to early 60's I'm pretty sure.

I'd say that floor tom will sound outstanding. It's from my favorite Slingy, and in fact most American drum companies construction period-pre "Beatles" but post WW2. Many times unfinished interiors, often nickel hardware. The ultimate projectors of the "round sound"...
