Hey guys, Drumbob is giving me a great deal on one of these kits. The Slingerland is 13,16,22 in a sky blue pearl finish. The second is a Tama Swingstar 12,13,16,22, re-wrapped in white satin flame. Of course the Tama is much cheaper. I don't really need a second kit, but I want one. I can't decide.
Slingerland/Tama
Wait! You only have one drum set? From reading your many posts, I have gotten the impression that you must have several drum sets that you keep buying/selling/trading/whatever. My opinion is that the Slingerland set is much better of the two drum sets. That single set-o-matic tom holder is a real versatile piece of hardware.

I have but one kit at the moment, the Ludwig bop. I do buy and trade drums, but I've decided to have a keeper and a second to deal with.
I'm with you, the Slingerland is no doubt a better kit, but it's also $400 more.
My vote is for the Slingerland! But, yes, $400 more is a big chunk of change!

What year is the Slingy set? Does it look to be "born together"? If the Tama is $400 and the Slingerland is $800, that might be a fair price depending on the age and condition.
I played one of those era/style Tama kits for years and I still have my Slingerland kit. The Tama was pretty solid but between the two, I'd go for the Slingerland every time.
64' Gretsch Bop kit
65' Ludwig Club Date kit
My vote is slingerland, sky blue pearl, beautiful
Slingerlands all day, every day. The Tamas are very nice too.
