slingerlands identification

i posted something along the same lines in the general column. but figured it could not hurt to cover all the basis. i recently picked up a from what i can tell 1974 ish ( I'm a noob) serials all in the 168000 area niles slingerland set.

it has two 22'' kicks one has the avante mount. 10'' 12'' 12'' deeper 13'' toms and a 16 floor tom.

i am pretty excited because these things are mint. from what i can see they are 3 pile with beautiful maple inner plies and a black wrap. i also got all the hardware but some things are not matching like the pedals are speed kings.

i fully intend keeping it but can't help but to wonder what are these worth? timeline history, general perceived build quality, rarity info would be helpful.

i will attach a few pics

i am sheepish to even mention to say what i paid for these, but it was round the price of a premium ride cymbal...... or a good bender.

Any information or feed back on these drums would be much appreciated . I've pretty much been a tama and yamaha guy for a while so these are fairly alien to me.

Black is by no means rare. Probably the most common, which doesn't help resale value, but the condition being so good is a major plus. The quality is some of the best Slingerland ever produced (IMO), and the sound is my favorite in vintage drums for rock music. The prices are usually LOW LOW LOW on these drums, which makes it even better if you love to play them (like I do). Only crappy thing about Slingerland drums is that the leg mounts on the floor toms and bass drums tend to strip out because the metal is so soft...if you don't over tighten them you should have years of trouble free use. Other than that...put those suckers together and rock them like there in no tomorrow. Killer sounding drums and if you got a deal on them then all the better!

thanks for the insight. I only paid four bones for them. I totally intend on keeping them. This actually my first maple shell kit so it gonna stay with the collection. Its been really cool gathering information and history on these.

good note on the hardware..... luckily I have a machinist\tool die maker in the family so i will probably strip the hardware and get something custom made. so if these are common and not to expensive, it should be easy to get my hands on some add ons? did all Slingerlands from this era come with the stick saver hoops....... or the hoops that slope towards the drum?

i would really like to get my hands on some matching concert toms! and some larger toms and floor toms for that matter.
