Slingerland/leedy Tom Mount

Loading...

I've got a 1963 Leedy Kit with a center tom mount. Unfortunately, the screw "snapped" when attempting to tighten the rod for mounting the tom. A small portion of the screw is lodged in the tube and I can't get it out.

If anyone knows how this can be done, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm looking to purchase a new mounting plate. I don't need any of the mounting hardware, just the plate with the threaded screw and tube.

I've attached a few pics of the broken mount. The last pic shows the assembly as it should look (unbroken).

AS USUAL, thanks in advance for your help!

You have to get easy outs, a square steel rod with a tapered end. You drill a hole in the broken screw and tap in the easy out. Then you can use an adjustable wrench to back out the broken screw. Any good hardware store should be able to help you out. Good luck.

Thats the way to fix it..Easy outs are the best way to do this,,I have used these many times over 25+ years on repairing drums...mikey

LUCKY / MIKEY777: THANKS to both of you for taking the time to respond to my post and for the recommendation regarding "easy outs." This forum is priceless.

My concern is cracking the "easy out" itself. I'm not what you'd call "mechanically inclined" by any stretch of the imagination. My fear is that my efforts would result in some sort of breakage or, even worse, stripping of the threads. Either way I'd need to replace the mount.

Do either of you know of someone who might be able to complete this task at a reasonable price? Just wondering.

THANKS AGAIN for your time and your help!

I think your on the west coast? Don't know any anybody that could do it out there. How about an auto mechanic? I am sure they could do it. If you can't find someone you can mail it to me and I'll do it for you.
