Slingerland.Black Chrome Over Wood Snare Drum

Loading...

I've never seen one like this, It's a 6x14 with the 3ply shell. Are they fairly rare? Worth a few hundred?

Thanks.

I think it is on the rarer side due to the 3ply and Black Chrome which was a pretty short-lived finish in the catalog. This was my chosen finish when I ordered my first made-to-order kit back in 1980 but when my dealer ordered it from the factory the color was already discontinued even though it was in the catalog in 80. I changed to plain glossy white and that was my main battle kit for 25 years.

You should get at least 200 bucks for that snare if it cleans up to really nice shape. Could be less if there are some flaws not seen in the pic or your chrome is pitted. Either way it's a nice drum for sure.

Blakrome is cataloged '77-'79. Looks like a TDR snare. Have you got a serial number?

It turns out it's a 6ply with ten lugs, he forgot to bring the stick saver hoop, I'll get it later in the week.

It's also missing the rail for the tdr throwoff.

Nice snare! Love that black chrome - quite ahead of its time as finishes go, really.

Well, it is probably not a six ply (unless you count the black chrome wrap) it will either be a three ply, with re-rings, or a five ply, no re-rings. This finish was offered at the time that slingerland began offering five ply as a standard and three ply as a special order. Impossible to tell with out looking through the clear snare side head or taking off a rim.

Also it is most likely not a 6” but rather 6.5”. I guess it is not impossible but 6” were not catalogued.

These are great sounding snares by the way. The tdr strainer is fantastic and whether it is five or three plies it is an awesome and versatile instrument.

5-ply is expected. 6" depth is possible. Are the extension bridges missing on the butt side also?

It's a 5ply shell and the drum is 6.5x14. The butt plate has the extension, just missing the throwoff extension and of course the correct snare wires.

I'm going to give it a go today as it is, I'll bet it will still sound good, but I'd eventually like to find the missing parts
