Slingerland tension rods

Loading...

I am currently tearing down my slingerland set and inspecting everything and shining up all the chrome. Are the tension rods period specific or are they a generic item that I could just buy new ones and get a sweet shine off of? The old ones are not that bad but as cheap as new ones are, I'd rather not even shine them if i dont have to. Besides, a couple of them are slightly rounded over.

Kick drum. Same question except the deals that hold the wood hoop on. Are new ones noticeable or should i try to shine the old ones?

Finally, my Slingerland stands have a couple threaded holes that are stripped. Probably from my old man being drunk and overtightening back in the day but I am not sure. My question is can I just retap a slightly larger hole and find the winged bolts to fit or should I fill in with JB weld or something like that and retap to original size and use the old wingbolts. The wingbolts seem, again, a generic fastener and not a vintage, period specific item.

All this being said, I am trying to maintain the integrity of this, my only, drum set and would hate to have one of you pros immediatley point out the "obvious" use of new tension rods or whatever when i post the finished pics! Hence my questions.

thanks,

drumhack

Very very very few of us are so anal that we would poo poo a tension rod or washer. Most of us get it as close as possible. There are a few kits that just have to be perfect. I've got one that has every single screw, washer, etc. original. All my other kits are just very close. One is so far off that I call it the Mutant. If you ask others, they will fall into the same groove. There is always one or two kits that you just have to have perfect. Then there are the "player" kits that you get close on and are just fine. No one here is going to blast you. Shoot, check some of these threads. We look for repros and substitutes all the time. No crime there. Do your best to get it close and enjoy sitting behind that beauty. Make some music. That's what it's all about.

I cant believe im reading this now,SERIOUSLY!!!..I just finished installing new tension rods on a 70,s RK i recently acquired.Reason being the "original"rods were bottoming out not allowing me to tension the heads properly,or at least to my liking. Now the sound is perfect, but i will certainly hold on to those originals.....What timingDOH

Ok.......The tension rods were the same with Ludwig, gretch and rogers..

take anything you can get...T rods...clean

If the t's come off you and use a great new product...

its 2 different metals that you mix like a paste...fill the hole...and tap...

You can also push the t"s down on too..

The metal goop is like 4.00....walmart has it..

For cleaning metal......Bon Amy askYes Sir mom about
