Slingerland Sound King?

Loading...

I have a 1961 Slingerland Sound King, does anyone know much about these? It is a wood snare with a white marine pearl finish. I am assuming they are a lesser model than the praised Radio King, but I was just curious about it. I haven't looked, but I'm hoping there aren't like a thousand of these on Ebay right now going for $10 a pop!

Thanks,

Kevin

I'm thinking those were a student model....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

You really need to add more info on the drum.

How many lugs, which strainer, what is the shell ply and hoops etc..

If it is a 6 lugger then a student model it is.

Let us know

Sorry, yes I did more info! it is an 8 lug wood snare, maple reinforcement rings on what looks like mahogany shells (possible 3 ply). I'm not sure on the strainer, it's just a flat 'thumb' switch and knob, the snares tie on through some holes on the bottom of it. Looks like a 6" deep shell, WMP wrap. Dated May 13, 1961 on the inside.

Hope this helps you all help me!!!!

Well, your description, while certainly helpful, is still perhaps a bit thin. So some risk without seeing the drum, but your words would fit a 1961 "Student Model" No. 151: 5.5x14, 8-lugs originally with single-flanged hoops and clips, 3-ply shell mahogany-poplar-mahogany, maple rings, Rapid strainer, no factory tone control. This is the descendant of what prior to 1959 Slingerland called its "Student Model Radio King".

I think you hit the nail on the head, haha. I will get some pictures up here soon, I spents this week cleaning this snare as well as the Buddy Rich model Super Classic snare from Ludwig. The fading on the Sound King is quite minimal since it was wrapped up in a case for the last 35 years or so! Any value in the old student model snares like that? I'm guessing more of a sentimental value than anything else.\

Thanks for all the help.
