Slingerland Snare ID

Loading...

I recently bought this 7x14 Mahogany Slingerland at the Hollywood C & V Drum show from my friend John Ferarro. The info I've just read puts the Chicago badge between '56 and '59 but I was thinking it might be older due to the SF hoops and claws. Did they use that type of hardware into the late '50's? Maybe it's been added. Hardware is NOB. I don't think Slingerland calls this a Radio King and I'm confused about the Krupa/Rich/Raido King chronology. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I used it tonight on my piano trio gig and loved it. I'll clean the hardware asap. Should look nice.

I believe the drum was called a Student Radio King... I think that bottom hoop with the little bump outs and the three point strainer along with the clips and the more modern lugs matches up correctly..

There is a catalog page on this site that shows it under Radio King History.

I'm only posting from memory and I could be wrong..

It sure is a beautiful drum!

When I took the heads off both the Remo Ambassador batter and Diplomat reso were the slightest bit snug when fitting over the bearing edge. Nothing major but I did notice it.

Aquarian makes heads that are slightly larger. I think they're the American Vintage series. Maybe I should get a set. Any experience with them?

Well... not on any of the few drums that I own but if you use that search feature on the tool bar and just look for Aquarian there are several opinions in several threads.

I looked through a few.. most people who use the Vintage Aquarian series heads seem to love them. A couple people said even regular Aquarian heads seem to fit a little better on vintage shells.

I'll try an Aquarian batter/reso thin combination and see for myself.

Thanks again Jim. Very helpful.

I have a Student model as well and it sounds great. original calf heads and everything (I have the original clip hoops, but switched them out to play on); does anyone know if this blue finish would be original?:
