Slingerland Snare Drum

Loading...

Hi all, I am working on restoring several drums that are the property of the community band that I play in and belong to. (Liberty Band, Hazleton, PA) We are one of the oldest or perhaps the oldest community band still active in the U.S. Our history includes playing for President Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in 1865.

This first offering is a Slingerland Snare Drum – “Broadcaster” model – 1938?

1. Wood shell

2. Marine Pearl finish

3. Slingerland Cloud Badge (upside down)

4. Drum dimensions – 6.5 X 14

5. Natural interior finish

6. 8 Lugs with 3 point Broadcaster strainer

7. Some type of old electric socket installed? I believe there are several additional holes but look original….not sure – see photos

8. See pictures

Any additional thoughts, information or comments would be appreciated. Is there any real value for this snare drum?

The electric socket is for a heater or light bulb to keep calfskin heads from getting soggy in damp/ cold weather.

I sure don't undestand the 3 extra holes, Darn shame on such a rare Broadcaster snare drum. easily $500.00 and above value. They pre date the Radio kings this one is in the 1934-1935 range. the red pad models were the later models. https://www.notsomoderndrummer.com/not-so-modern-drummer/columns/mike-curotto-medium-rare-drums/1934-35-slingerland-broadcaster http://www.coopersvintagedrums.com/The%20Slingerland%20Broadcaster.htm

Thanks to everyone for your information. I will share the info with the Liberty Band members and officers.

My second snare drum posting will be coming soon which is a Leedy "Broadway Parallel" metal shell snare drum which I believe to be in very good condition.
