Slingerland snare drum on Ebay

Loading...

I was looking at this Slingy snare on Ebay and with a bit of investigation it looks to be a Hollywood Ace model which I have been told came in a 3 ply shell.

Having a look at the underside photo it looks to me like a solid shell.

Did Slingerland make solid shell snare drums with "rapid strainers"?

I looked at the Slingerland catalogue and the Radio King of that era came with a "3 point strainer".

Mid 60's inner plys where often maple so the solid shell look in the picture might be deceiving.. The drum looks to be in fine condition.

I'm thinking it probably is a Hollywood Ace... but I have been wrong a few times already today. ;)

Not a Guru... just interested..

There are some solid Hollywood Aces around, but that one looks like a 3 ply. That dark line is a giveaway.

I like the sound of the 3 ply Hollywood Aces and Student Radio Kings more than my solid shell Slingerlands....but that's me....
