5 or 5 1/2X14.Black/gold Niles,Ill. badge.Serial #72062. Brass shell with the 3-ring center, brass hoops. After on-line researching and looking through Rob Cook's THE SLINGERLAND BOOK,the mystery question is: Shouldn't this drum be equipped with a Zoomatic throwoff instead of the Rapid throwoff as seen on this snare I have?
Slingerland snare drum mystery (TO ME,IT IS) Last viewed: 13 hours ago
Are you sure the hoops and shell are Brass? From the pic the badge looks silver and Black?
Black/GOLD Niles, I'll. badge. Shell and both hoops are BRASS.
Just so happens that I bought a 6.5" version recently, and it also has the Rapid strainer.
I had not seen any of these 3 line shells with the Rapid strainer except for Leedy badged drums, but obviously they are out there.
You can see mine in a post on the next page titled Unusual `60s Slingerland snare.
They did not show them in the catalogs that I know of.
Mine is serial 39493. I think your serial # would place yours around `66-`68. Yours has the version of the Rapid strainer that would fit that time frame also.
I bought mine partly because I prefer the Rapid to the Zoomatic.
Thanks for the imput. Picked it up a few hours ago for a 'song'. The seller thought it was junk because it wasn't a Ludwig.
Cool beans you've got a keeper. play it smiles for miles !!!
