I really only need the very top half of the clamshell piece, the bit with the two tom pegs. I don't want to buy the whole assembly because it's not what I am looking for right now.

Not sure how much you're willing to spend, but Jim Petty offers this part, #160-1, for $130. Yes, it's pricey, not chromed, but well-made and won't break! Check it out at his website... http://www.jp2creations.com/
