Have you seen any other black sparkle kits that look like this one?

Judging by that catalog, they look more like the sparkling maroon pearl finish.

Based on the limited pictures the drums are the wrong era for Sparkling Maroon Pearl ('70-'75). The set appears to be '64-mid '66. Black Sparkle Pearl was available '58-'69 and according to Dr CJ Wenk there was a variation of that wrap which contained more maroon flakes. The 12" tom does not appear to be part of the original kit. Missing bass drum badge is not helpful. Have you checked the drum interiors for date stamps?

There are no dates, but they are definitely from the 60's. It has the rail mount with clip and the interiors are clear. Ok, then it's a different version of the black sparkle, which is fine, just trying to find out what the finish is. They 12 has a chocolate interior, so ya, it's from a different year.

I like the wrap on these as opposed to the darker black sparkle.

A re-wrap is also still a possibility. Where are the seams?

I'm not sure, I'll need to go to store and look. Where should they be?
